La Coruña, 18 September.- Ecoener reaches 623 MW in operation with the commissioning of the photovoltaic power plants Cumayasa 4, with a capacity of 61.7 MWp, and Payita 1, with a capacity of 60 MWp, in the Dominican Republic.
Both plants are backed by long-term 15-year power purchase agreements (PPAs).
Ecoener currently has 218 MW in operation in the country, and this figure will increase to 280 MW once Payita 2, which will be hybridized with a storage system under construction, is in operation. This will be the first project in the Dominican Republic to include batteries connected to the public grid.
Following the grid connection of the new plants, Ecoener now has 623 MW in operation across all its markets, an 83% increase compared to last year, when it had 341 MW.
“Thanks to this investment in the Dominican Republic, where we have already invested €230 million to date, we have almost doubled in size in just one year, significantly furthering our goals”, indicates Luis de Valdivia, Chairman of Ecoener. Furthermore, an additional 214 MW are under development in the country.
The plants
Cumayasa 4, located in the La Romana province, covers an area of 70 hectares, on which 102,000 photovoltaic panels have been installed. The plant will produce 125 GWh of renewable energy every year.
On the other hand, Payita 1, located in the María Trinidad Sánchez province, extends over 83 hectares with 110,000 photovoltaic panels, which will produce 127 GWh of renewable energy every year.
CO₂ reduction
Ecoener’s total assets in operation and under construction in the Dominican Republic will provide more than 235,000 homes. This will avoid the emission of nearly 359,000 tons of CO₂ and the consumption of 346,000 barrels of oil each year.
Apart from the positive environmental impact, Ecoener strengthens its commitment to sustainable development with innovative solutions, such as agrivoltaics in its Cumayasa plants. This model optimizes land use and generates value in the area by combining photovoltaic production with sheep herding.
